As a first call professional percussionist, drummer, and educator based out of Chicago, Mike became acutely aware of the need for quality products. Drawing upon years of experience he quickly earned himself a reputation for developing the finest and most extensive line of mallets. Michael Balter serves as the driving force behind the team at Mike Balter Mallets.
Mike has studied under several of the nation's most respected players and teachers including Roy C. Knapp, Louie Bellson, Lou Singer, Jose Bethancourt, Bob Tilles, Bobby Christian, and Al Payson. After earning his degrees at DePaul University Mike went on to teach drums and percussion at Governor's State University, The American Conservatory of Music, and DePaul University. Dr. Balter received an Honorary Doctorate from VanderCook College of Music.

For twenty-seven consecutive years Mike served on the Percussive Arts Society's (PAS) Board of Directors with the distinct pleasure of serving on the Executive Board of PAS for sixteen of those twenty-seven years including an unprecedented eight consecutive terms as PAS Treasurer. He received the Distinguished Leadership Award, the only recipient to earn such an honor in the Society's history. And was a 2015 inductee into the Percussion Hall of Fame.
