Ed Shea, born and raised in Philadelphia, has been playing professionally for the past 45 years. He just completed a 2 1/2 year run of NEWSIES on Broadway and continues to sub on various shows including ALADDIN. Ed has had a long-term working relationship with Johnny Mathis since 1969 and with Frank Sinatra Jr. for the past 20 years and continues performing with them on their tours.
Ed was on staff at Philadelphia International Records working for legendary producer, Thom Bell, recording for artists such as Deniece Williams, The Stylistics, The Temptations, Lou Rawls, Loretta Lynn, Teddy Pendergrass, Phyllis Hyman, James Ingram, Patti LaBelle, The Four Tops and The Spinners.
Mr. Shea headed to Atlantic City in 1979 working all of the major acts in the casinos and production shows including: Frank Sinatra, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Paul Anka, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Don Rickles, Andy Williams, Debbie Gibson, Petula Clark, Ray Charles, Shirley Bassey, Josh Grobin and Michael Crawford.
Mr. Shea moved to New York City in 1993 and subbed on over 50 Broadway shows including: Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Grease, Annie Get Your Gun and Cats. He has also toured the world with various musical theater productions: Peter Pan, South Pacific, Chorus Line, Chicago and the Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Some of the other venues he has performed in are: Paper Mill Playhouse, Glimmerglass Opera, (with opera legend, Deborah Voigt), Westbury Music Fair and the Irish Repertory Theater in NYC.
Ed has worked and been requested by some of the top composers, orchestrators and arrangers in the theater world including: Rachel Portman, Alan Menken, Larry Blank, Mark Hummel, Danny Troob, Steve Orich, Michael Dansicker, Torrie Zito and Larry Hochman.
Mr. Shea has also been seen and heard in a number of movies: most recently TED, and also City Slickers and the Fish That Saved Pittsburgh.
Ed graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education and Music Performance from the Philadelphia Music Academy studying with Nick D’Amico. Other teachers that he studied with are: Michael Bookspan, Ed Shaughnessy, David Charles and Doug Allan.
