DANIEL SMITHIGER is currently on the faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Department of Music. He serves as the Instructor of Percussion, Director of Basketball Bands (E-Band), and Director of SIUE STEEL. His teaching duties include applied percussion, percussion ensemble, percussion literature, percussion methods and Basketball Band.
Since his appointment he has grown the percussion studio; developed and furthered SIUE STEEL, the eBand, the Percussion Institute, and the Marching Percussion Festival. Mr. Smithiger has performed, adjudicated and presented clinics in Trinidad, Taiwan and Canada, as well throughout Arizona, Arkansas, California, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas.
His Percussion Ensemble has performed at the National Association for Music Education In-Service Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, he performed with the Hatter’s Steel Pan Orchestra in San Fernando, Trinidad during the 2016 Panorama season with his group SIUE STEEL, performs regularly in the Greater St. Louis area, is premiering a quartet by Josh Gottry at the 6th Annual Percussion Institute at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (faculty recital), and is performing another Faculty Percussion recital at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in March. Mr. Smithiger is also performing with the Northern Arizona University Percussion Ensemble in April 2016.
